Dosa maavu (Dosa batter)


Idly Rice (Idli arisi) - 3 cups
Urid dhal (Ulutham paruppu) - 1 cup
Fenugreek (Vendhayam) - 1 teaspoon
Salt - 1 and 1/2 tablespoon

When preparing large quantity, maintain the above ratio of ingredients.


  1. Soak rice and vendhayam in water
  2. Separately soak urid dhal in water
  3. Wait for 3 hours
  4. Drain the water
  5. Thoroughly wash the both  3 to 4 times separately and drain
  6. Grind the rice nicely in a wet grinder. Do not add much water. Let the batter be thick
  7. Transfer this to a vessel
  8. Grind the urid dhal nicely in the wet grinder.  Do not add much water. Let the batter be thick
  9. Add this with rice batter and mix
  10. Add salt and mix
  11. Keep the batter for 4 hours to ferment
  12. Store the batter in fridge
  13. Do add water to the batter and mix while preparing the dosas
